Winter Reflections

The inspiration for this series of table sculptures and wall pieces comes from observing and experiencing the cold and starkness of winter here in rural Quebec. While taking photos last winter I was captivated by the beauty and delicateness of the trees, branches and field grasses as they were all but obliterated by snow and ice. In these works I am exploring contrasts: Inside versus outside temperatures, white snow setting a backdrop for pine cones and needles, rocks jutting out of the ground like islands; the white out effect of winter storms versus the sparkling reflections and shadows created on a brilliant February day.

These works combine several techniques i.e.: making porcelain paperclay slabs, transferring photographic images, collage, glazing and firing.
